‘The Big Bang Theory’ Jim Parsons: 5 Fun Things You Didn’t Know About Sheldon Cooper Star
“The Big Bang Theory” fans would most likely agree that Sheldon Cooper is the life of the hit CBS show.
Not only is Sheldon smart, he is also a good friend to Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg). Unfortunately, he has his own way of showing it.
Just recently, Sheldon ended his relationship with Amy (Mayim Bialik), and fans saw a different side to the adorable character. Although he’s quirky, no one could deny the fact that he has a good heart.
Here are five fun things you need to know about Jim Parsons, or the actor who has been giving life to Sheldon Cooper for the past nine seasons.
5. He’s an award-winning actor
Parsons is one of the most notable actors on television today. He has already won four Emmy awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
In 2011, he also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy for his role as Sheldon.
Parsons also won a Critics Choice Television Award for Best Actor in A Comedy Series in 2011 and 2014.
For three consecutive years, he also won Best Actor in a Comedy Series from the Online Film & Television Association from 2010 to 2012. He also won the same award in 2014.
4. He was meant to play Sheldon Cooper
“The Big Bang Theory” co-creator Chuck Lorre spoke with The Star back in 2009 to reveal that Parsons nailed his audition for the role of Sheldon, and was therefore tapped to play the character without any doubt.
“He nailed it from the moment he walked into the room. He nailed it so much, I had to ask him to come back and do it again, because I wasn’t sure if he had simply gotten lucky,” he said.
3. He’s in a 12-year-relationship
Parsons and Todd Spiewak have been in a relationship since 2002. However, it was only ten years after when the actor revealed that he is gay.
During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on “The Ellen Show,” Parsons was asked if he has any plans to get married.
At that time, he said that he and Spiewak still have not decided on whether or not marriage was necessary for their long-term relationship.
2. He has a favorite character on “The Big Bang Theory.”
According to Parsons’ IMDb page, his favorite “The Big Bang Theory” character is Penny.
On the show, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Sheldon don’t always agree on things, but it’s obvious how much they love each other as friends.
1. His success didn’t happen overnight
Even though Parsons has received multiple awards, and has voiced different characters on various movies, the actors’ success didn’t happen overnight.
Parsons starred in at least 15 pilot episodes before eventually landing a titular role on “The Big Bang Theory.”
You can see more of Parsons on “The Big Bang Theory” season 9 on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
